When we tested the then-redesigned Cadillac SRX in 2010, we had one big complaint: The 3.0-liter V6 managed to get the job done, but it was outmatched by the overall heavy weight of the vehicle. We wondered why the SRX didn’t just come with GM’s corporate 3.6-liter V6. Now it does. The 308-hp, 3.6-liter V6 replaces both the 265-hp, 3.0-liter base V6 engine and an already-discontinued-due-to-slow-sales 300-hp, 2.8-liter, turbocharged V6. Otherwise, the SRX remains much the same. It retains the plush, well-finished interior and relatively agile handling we enjoyed before. It also has the same impaired driver visibility.
Our SRX AWD Luxury Collection has no options and stickers at $43,085. That sum buys a rather well-equipped compact luxury SUV.
We’ll find out what impact the new engine has on acceleration and fuel economy as we thoroughly test the updated SRX.
