Ecotricity supplies electricity solely from renewable sources such as wind power and to promote its work Dale Vince, the company's managing director, is taking part in an attempt to break the current land speed record for wind-powered vehicles.
The Greenbird (named after Donald Campbell's famous Bluebird record breaker) is a highly advanced machine that utilises technology from both Formula One and aeronautical engineering to skim along the ground at speeds some petrol-powered cars can't achieve.
Brainchild of engineer Richard Jenkins, the Greenbird is the result of 10 years of design and development and it is tasked with smashing the current 116.7mph record, which was set in 1999 in the USA by Bob Schumacher in a car called the Iron Duck.
Ecotricity's car is currently in Australia readying its attempt on the record. The salt flats of Lake Lefroy, which is about 30 miles south of the ex gold-mining town of Kalgoorlie, is thought to be the best location.
Last week the vehicle was readied for the attempt and the team is hoping that the weather conditions allow a full onslaught on the record before the end of September.
